Discussion Group, October 2023 – February 2024

You are invited to join the JASNA-NY monthly discussion group. This group is primarily hosted on Zoom, with occasional gatherings at a member’s home. Meetings are the third Thursday of each month. If you are interested in joining, please send an email to jasnany@yahoo.com .

Thursday, October 19. 7 pm.
The topic is sets of siblings, both by birth and by marriage, and we’ll be drawing from all of Austen’s novels.
Thursday, November 16. 7 pm.
We’ll be discussing the difficulties in updating Austen novels for modern times — what works, what doesn’t; which novels lend themselves to updating more than others; which issues are just not relevant today.
Thursday, January 18. 7 pm.
We’ll be discussing particularly striking passages from Thomas Keymer’s Jane Austen: Writing, Society, Politics.
Thursday, February 15. 7 pm.
Discussing Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, The Watsons.
