Announcing Our Next JASNA-NYM Regional Meeting

CAROLINE JANE KNIGHT ON HER AUSTEN HERITAGE

An Afternoon with Austen’s Fifth-Great Niece

In Person Gathering at Marymount Manhattan College
221 East 71st St, New York City, in the Regina Peruggi Room

Join fellow Janeites for an afternoon talk given by a close relative of Jane Austen and devoted champion of her legacy! Our distinguished guest speaker is Caroline Jane Knight, fifth great niece of Jane Austen and the last of Jane’s nieces to grow up in Chawton House on the ancestral estate where Jane lived, wrote, and found her voice as one of literature’s greatest authors.

Like most of our regional events, this meeting is open to JASNA members and nonmembers alike.It will take place in the Regina Perrugi Room on the 2nd floor at Marymount Manhattan, an ADA-accessible venue.

A LIVELY MIND: SEMIQUINCENTENNIAL EXHIBITION AT THE MORGAN

JASNA’s own Dr. Juliette Wells (who addressed our New York Metropolitan Region in the fall of 2024) serves as guest co-curator for A Lively Mind: a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Jane Austen’s genius at The Morgan Library and Museum, featuring the largest collections of Austen family treasures ever displayed on this side of the Atlantic. GRAMERCY JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB: “THE RUSHWORTH FAMILY PLOT”

JASNA’s own Elise Pallay organizes this monthly book club through Meetup.com. Each month’s selection is either an Austen novel or contemporary spin-off. Members meet to chat over a meal at Gramercy Kitchen, a classic New York diner on Third Avenue and 17th Street. Newbies welcome! Just make sure to RSVP early, as the spots tend to fill. On the third Thursday of every month, members gather via Zoom for a discussion of some aspect of Jane Austen’s work or her life and times. Topics and questions to ponder are sent out in advance.
